Do not scorn my furrowed skin
Nor criticize each drooping limb
I have stood for a thousand years
Firmly rooted to this very spot
Small wonder then I’m thin on top
I remember well my early youth
A young brash sapling so uncouth
Craving attention with dreams of fame
People pausing in adoration
Giving them cause for inspiration
Time passes slowly for the young
Till suddenly Spring has sprung
Down the years I have had good luck
Marked with a cross I have been retained
While all around me the Chainsaw reigned
Celebrities with me hang on many walls
Heyday pictures my history recalls
Proudly I stand determined to the last
Scattering my acorns with great determination
Ensuring life for the next generation
